The Ministry of Natural Resources is proposing a small step to control Asian carp, a hugely  prolific invasive species that is expected to do hundreds of millions of dollars damage to the beleaguered Great Lakes. Asian carp are most likely to reach the Great Lakes through the Chicago canal, where last ditch efforts are being attempted.

Ontario's comparatively timid response is to release a discussion paper on whether to prohibit deliberate importation of Asian carp unless they have been eviscerated. Why aren't we doing much more?
