Career

Jonathan Woodcock is a senior leading junior whose practice is exclusively defence based.

Jonathan has accrued extensive experience as a specialist defence counsel and is instructed to act for clients across a wide spectrum of serious criminal offences. He has a noteworthy reputation for being both sympathetic and straight talking in his representation of clients. In addition to his extensive experience across the full spectrum of criminal law cases, Jonathan has developed a particular interest in the law relating to dangerous dogs.

When not preparing cases or appearing in court, Jonathan enjoys playing tennis and is a keen road cyclist. As a man who enjoys a challenge, he recently cycled London-Paris to raise funds on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care. Jonathan is a rugby fan and a season ticket holder at Saracens.

Notable Cases:

R v A Representing a defendant charged with jury intimidation at Snaresbrook Crown Court. Despite the incident being recorded on CCTV, the defendant was acquitted. 

R v Z  Leading junior in allegations of kidnapping and blackmail involving serious violence towards the victims. Secured acquittal. Central Criminal Court.

R v A  Conspiracy involving the production of massive amounts of cannabis from numerous factories installed in the houses of upmarket suburbia.

R v F  Repeat abuser of young children. Properly imposed IPP, but rare success in the Court of Appeal on appropriate length of minimum term.

R v T  Gangland contract to have someone shot. Apparently it only costs £500! Conspiracy to murder. Acquitted. Hove CC.

R v S Only defendant to be acquitted in nasty unprovoked gang attack leaving serious injury. Luton CC.

R v F – Hove Crown Court – Leading junior in a large scale Class A supply case.

R v M & Ors – Ipswich Crown Court – Acting for principle defendant in huge customs duty evasion and only one of the few major defendants to be acquitted.

R v L – Winchester Crown Court – Leading junior in importation of hundreds of kilos of cannabis.

R v K – Central Criminal Court  – Leading junior in attempted murder – defendant upset at garage mechanic so shot him!

R v S – Bristol Crown Court – Leading junior. Professional dealer of colossal  amounts of cocaine and heroin.

R v M – Harrow Crown Court – Leading junior. Kidnap and gang rape
