A leading junior practising in fraud, crime and regulatory law. His reputation in fraud and white-collar crime is particularly strong. He appeared for the Serious Fraud Office in the landmark Deferred Prosecution Agreement case of "SFO v XYZ Ltd" and acted for the Financial Conduct Authority in Operation Cotton - the first land-banking prosecution, and the largest criminal matter that the FCA had then brought. He is also currently instructed by the SFO in an investigation into alleged legal services funding fraud (Operation Totem). His substantial defence practice has recently included the defence of a company director and Operation Zygos "most-wanted" nominal charged in an extensive horse-racing tipping fraud (R v B), representing a charity trustee in the "Kids lntegrated Cancer Treatment" alleged charities fraud (R v W & Others), and advising a plumbing services group in respect of a number of Trading Standards and fraud investigations. Other high-profile cases include leading for the defence of the operations manager in the "Highway" driver-training fraud (R v R & Others); the defence of the finance director charged in the Cawston Park Psychiatric Hospital alleged "extra care" fraud (R v W & B); the defence of the company secretary in the Tempaid revenue fraud (R v S & Others); leading a team combining the DWP, the Home Office, HMRC and Eurostar in the prosecution of six defendants for the systematic misuse of 400 identities to commit immigration and benefits frauds (Op Boromo); leading for the then Financial Services Authority in its first successful criminal prosecution for boiler room fraud (Mason); leading for Trading Standards in one of its largest counterfeit goods cases (Grover & Arura); the successful prosecution of one of City polices most substantial identity theft cases (Peters) and leading a multi-agency operation uniting CPS Special Casework, UKBA, DWp and HMRC in the successful phased prosecutions of 16 defendants for a multi-million pound benefits and immigration fraud conspiracy stretching back 20 years (Op Spenser). ln mainstream crime, the last few years have also seen him instructed in a number of very prominent cases, including representing defendants in both the first Victoria Station murder trial and the Camberwell arson murder trial, and acting for the Crown in the Op Markham, Op Mappleton, Op Talbert and Op Downlontown homicide trials. He has also successfully defended in a number of serious and highly sensitive sexual offences trials. ln addition, he has a thriving regulatory and professional discipline practice, appearing regularly before the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council.
