Career

Kane appears daily in the Crown, Magistrates’ and Youth courts across a broad range of criminal matters including violence, dishonesty, drugs, possession of weapons and public disorder.

As well as a busy general crime practice, Kane has court experience of matters with a quasi-criminal or civil aspect, including Sexual Harm Prevention Order and civil Closure Order hearings.

In addition to his court work, Kane has a developing reputation for providing written advice to professional and lay clients, including advising on private prosecutions and proceedings by professional regulatory bodies.

Prior to starting at Furnival, Kane worked with leading firm Hickman & Rose in the financial crime and regulatory departments, assisting with various high-profile cases including FCA and SFO prosecutions against individuals involved in the LIBOR rate-rigging scandal, Rolls Royce, and the recent acquittal of the Tesco UK directors for fraud and false accounting.

Kane is regularly requested by solicitors following positive feedback from clients and has been praised as an advocate who “makes cogent arguments with real passion”. Although a pupil, one opponent commented, “Kane’s advocacy, court etiquette and presence were on par with someone who had been at the Bar for at least 7 years”.
