Career

Nyakio is a qualified Kenyan Advocate having been admitted in 2008 and has worked with Kaplan & Stratton Advocates since 2007. She joined the partnership in 2016. Nyakio specialises in property development work, energy law, mining law, immigration law and environmental law. She has also been involved in the advisory teams for solar, wind and geothermal energy projects dealing in particular with land and regulatory work.

Some of the notable transactions she has been involved in include: advising on the environmental and regulatory (including local authority) aspects of a proposed takeover of KenolKobil by Puma Energy – Switzerland; advising on a corporate buyout for a large mall in Nairobi; advising on the sale of Loisaba conservancy which is a 60,000 acre ranch in Laikipia by way of a share sale involving extensive corporate restructuring including the creation of securities, easements and various other land rights over the property; advising a solar cell photovoltaic power developer on a 10 MW, 20MW an 40 MW Solar PV plant – the advice encompassed energy regulatory matters and land acquisition issues. This was a landmark transaction as solar power generation in Kenya is at its infancy stage.
