Other clients of the practice are Inchcape and Florida Ice and Farm Company, as well as Panamanian banks Multibank and Capital Bank.

EY Law Central America's corporate and M&A practice is led by Fernando Vargas and the eminent Hernán Pacheco O; the team focuses on transactional services such as pre- and post-closing matters and company restructurings. In a recent example, the team handled the due diligence, contracts, structuring, implementation and post-closing for Inchcape's acquisition of car dealership Grupo Rudelman. Furthermore, Vargas provides day-to-day corporate advice to restaurant chain Grupo La Fabbrica and to regional subsidiaries of Kimberly-Clark. In a significant hire that will broaden the team's offering, the firm hired transportation specualist Abraham Stern from Sfera Legal in August 2019.

Dispute resolution
Dispute resolution - ranked: tier 2

EY Law Central America

Following the integration of Pacheco Coto in January 2018, EY Law Central America fields a two-partner team led by María del Mar Herrera and Allan Hernández. All lawyers from the previous firm stayed on, with the exception of Juvenal Sánchez, who left to found his own law firm in July 2018. Areas of strength include distribution disputes and competition and consumer matters. The department is regularly instructed by Verizon Communications; for instance, it recently defended the client against allegations of breach of contract related to the publication of telephone directories. Hernán Pacheco O and Alejandro Antillón are also key contacts.

EY Law Central America's IP practice in San José is led by Roxana Cordero Pereira. The firm mainly manages trade mark portfolios, but also advises on copyright and patent registration. The department advises Grupo Bimbo, Avon, Ingeniería Estrella and Omnilife on the management of their entire IP portfolios, ranging from assisting with trade mark and patent registrations and renewals to infringement procedures and unfair competition issues. Managing partner Hernán Pacheco O is also a key figure in the department.

Alejandro Antillón and Arturo Apéstegui lead the real estate team at EY Law Central America, which focuses on advising on mixed-use and long-term developments. In a recent example, the team assisted Reserva Conchal with the development and registration of a condominium project including a new W Hotel and a golf course. Along with key associates Rudy Sorto and Monserrat Alvarado, Antillón is currently also assisting RC Inmobiliaria with a large residential and commercial-use vertical condominium project in San José. June 2018 saw the departure of Jorge González and Alberto Sáenz for the newly founded Invicta Legal. However, the firm strengthened its real estate team with the arrival of hotel development expert Andrea Sandoval from Dentons Muñoz in spring 2019.
