Position

Stephen J. Smirti, Jr., represents clients in insurance coverage and reinsurance matters and in litigation involving intellectual property rights.

A registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Steve is a partner in Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Coverage and Intellectual Property Practice Groups.

Steve’s insurance coverage and reinsurance practice involves representing clients with respect to patent, trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property violations, as well as liabilities relating to environmental contamination, construction defects, business torts, and asbestos and other long tail claims.

Steve also advises clients on the protection of intellectual property assets and the prosecution of patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Career

Steve received the Stephen P. Ladas Award from the U.S. Trademark Association for excellence in scholarly analysis of the relationship between intellectual property rights and antitrust violations.

In 2019 and 2020, the well-respected Legal 500 recommended Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Coverage practice in the insurance: advice to insurers category. The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category.
