Matthew Brown is an Associate in the Litigation & Restructuring Department of Conyers Dill & Pearman in the British Virgin Islands. Matthew has a broad practice covering all contentious aspects of commercial and insolvency law.

Between 2012 and 2017, Matthew was a commercial chancery barrister in England and Wales, practising from a nationally-renowned set of chambers in London and Bristol. His practice included commercial, trusts and insolvency work. He was ranked in legal directories as an up and coming leading junior, where he was described as ‘clever and diligent’, ‘effective’ and ‘good with clients’.

Conyers Dill & Pearman is frequently involved in international litigation work in the BVI, and has acted on many of the reported cases before both the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal. Highlights included acting for KMG International in enforcing a high-value arbitration award, by tracing and taking steps to recover allegedly stripped assets; and advising Renaissance Ventures in a claim and counterclaim surrounding the ownership of approximately 33 per cent of Comodo Holdings and counter-allegations of dishonesty. BVI office litigation and restructuring head Mark Forte specialises in complex cross-border litigation and contentious cross-border insolvency, and is recognised for his emergency interim relief work and considerable insolvency experience; Richard Evans is particularly focused on shareholder disputes, particularly Asia-sourced matters, and contentious insolvency. Also highly rated are Jerry Samuel and counsel Tameka Davis, while the associates to note are Matthew Brown, Lauren Peaty and Alecia Johns, who joined from Guildhall Chambers, Withers LLP and O'Neal Webster, respectively.

Conyers Dill & Pearman's private client team advises on family trust structures and ongoing administration matters, as well as on significant contentious trusts disputes. Typical work includes inheritance structuring, private investment structures, inter-generational asset transfers and regulatory laws affecting cross-border transactions. The team acted for Lombard Odier Trust (Bermuda), as trustee of a large structure of BVI family trusts, on the complex restructuring and decanting of trust assets, which involved BVI corporate issues and novel classes of trust assets. Associate Matthew Brown regularly advises trustees, beneficiaries, protectors and other office holders on contentious trust and private client-related matters. In the Cayman Islands, counsel Robert Lindley heads up the Cayman and BVI private client and trust group.
