Career

Mr. Helgeson counsels U.S. and international companies with regard to all aspects of business-related immigration laws helping clients develop and serve their global workforce. He works interactively with client leadership to take a personalized approach to assist the business in achieving its goals, now and in the future. Mr. Helgeson partners with clients to develop and drive overall strategy development and to manage day-to-day case operations. He is comfortable communicating with in-house counsel, executive team members, human resources personnel, and foreign nationals and their managers, as necessary, to provide consistent, clear and concise explanations of immigration processes.

Mr. Helgeson counsels clients on all aspects of obtaining nonimmigrant visas for employees, including E, H, L, O, P, R and TN visas, permanent residency, and naturalization. He also has experience providing training and practical know-how to clients to assist clients in developing and implementing immigration-related policies and procedures. Mr. Helgeson has extensive experience with Form I-9 issues and representing employers in their dealings with immigration-related government audits. Further, he works closely with our Mergers & Acquisition practice group lawyers to ensure Form I-9 compliance and employment authorization for transferred personnel.

Mr. Helgeson is a member of Vedder Price’s Diversity Committee and serves as the Vedder Price Pro Bono Committee’s liaison with the National Immigrant Justice Center. During law school, Mr. Helgeson served as a legal intern for the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission and as a student supervisor for the Domestic Violence Courthouse Pilot Project.
