Kingsley Ong is a Partner specialising in all types of Financing and Debt Restructuring. He leads the firm’s DCM, Derivatives, Structured Finance, Securitisation, Restructuring and Insolvency practices in Asia.

Kingsley is a Hong Kong Notary Public, a Hong Kong Solicitor, a Barrister and Solicitor-Advocate of England & Wales, and an Advocate & Solicitor of Singapore.

Kingsley is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Law Faculty of The University of Hong Kong. His published opinions have been cited as legal authority in the US Court (Lehman Brothers Special Finance vs Bank of New York, 2010), the Hong Kong Standing Committee on Company Law Reform, the Financial Stability Board (FSB), and leading textbooks.

Aided by an increasingly global international footprint, Eversheds Sutherland is gaining market recognition for its ability to advise creditors and debtors on complex multi-jurisdictional insolvency/restructuring mandates. Led by the 'excellent' Kingsley Ong, and aided by associate Eleanor Lau, the Hong Kong office is coordinating (across four continents) the firm's representation of leading US guitar firm Gibson on the planning and execution of its insolvency strategy following the breakdown of negotiations with its major creditors. Ong is also recognised as an 'expert in the unwinding of complex financial instruments', a skill which is of particular value in relation to his ongoing representation of KPMG, as Hong Kong liquidators of derivatives brokerage MF Global and investment bank Lehman Brothers on their respective high-profile and long-running insolvencies.

Team head Kingsley Ong recently acted for Hong Kong Capital Finance as arranger on a high-value Hong Kong mortgage securitisation warehouse transaction with Korean bondholders. Ong's expertise on the front end of deals has also seen him develop a market-leading reputation for unwinding securitisations, derivatives and complex structured products; he continues to advise KPMG as Hong Kong liquidator of derivatives brokerage MF Global and investment bank Lehman Brothers on their respective high-profile and long-running insolvencies. Other clients include China Merchants Securities, Axis Bank, CTI Capital and China Minsheng Bank. Associate Polly Chiu is another name to note.
