Particularly active on the lender and investor side, and with strong experience in cross-border transactions, the team at Bufete Aguirre Soc. Civ. often advises clients on the financing of public entities. Group head Ignacio Aguirre acted as local counsel to Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith and JP Morgan Securities, as initial purchasers, on a $1bn bond issuance by the Bolivian state. Especially strong in advising energy-sector clients on corporate governance and regulatory matters, the practice also has experience in the contentious space, including arbitration. Recent matters saw group head Ignacio Aguirre represent a power company in its $10m claim against a European company regarding a supply agreement; and advise Minera San Cristóbal, Silex and Memisa on shareholder matters and capital increases. Fernando Aguirre continues to advise the National Association of Medium Miners on various regulatory matters touching on tax, investment and dispute resolution. Gazprom International is another client.
