Position

Founding Partner of ARAQUEREYNA. His professional practice covers a wide range of aspects in Business, Real Estate and Finance Law. He often advises local and international clients in business transactions. Mr. Sosa has extensive experience in corporate restructuring transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity. He also advises important companies and international investors on all fields of Corporate Law. He has developed an active practice in the Intellectual Property Protection area, and coordinates the Intellectual Property and New Technologies Department of the Firm.

Member of the Capital District Bar Association, Venezuela. President of the Venezuelan Executives Association (AVE) and Member of its Corporate Governance Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the Venezuelan-Colombian Economic Integration Chamber (CAVECOL), from 1999 to 2007, and in 2010 he was designated again as Principal Member of the Board of Directors of CAVECOL. He is a Member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Trademark Association (INTA), and the Inter American Association of Industrial Property (ASIPI).

Araquereyna’s team is ‘always accessible’, and ‘goes further than expected’. The team has a strong track record acting for clients in the TMT sector in a broad range of mandates, advising Nokia Networks and Telefónica Venezuela among others. Pedro Planchart, who is ‘incredibly bright’, and practice head Pedro Sosa are handling various matters for the latter client, including assisting with a corporate restructuring. Other work included assisting Microsoft Venezuela in modifying contracts to comply with Venezuelan law and analysing the impact of exchange control regulations. Manuel Reyna is also noted. The well-respected Gustavo Reyna joined the firm in 2016 from D’Empaire Reyna Abogados, and Roberto Strauss Perera was a new hire in 2017.

Araquereyna is regularly instructed by significant domestic and international clients in complex commercial litigation and arbitration. Rafael Aneas, Pedro Sosa and Guido Mejía are part of a team acting for construction consortium Consorcio El Sitio in a breach of contract dispute with Group Monsuserca concerning the construction of power plants in Venezuela. Other work included handling consumer protection litigation for General Motors Venezolana. Marcos Carrillo and Luis Alfredo Araque are the key names for arbitration.

Araquereyna’s ‘excellent’ and ‘professional’ team is ‘proactive in communicating new regulations’ to clients. Practice head Antonio Canova is ‘a strong character and a fighter’, and ‘one of the few lawyers willing to litigate against the Venezuelan government’. He and senior associate Rodrigo Moncho Stefani are acting for Industrias Alimenticias Hermo de Venezuela in petitioning for an annulment of a decision of the Exchange Control Authority concerning foreign currency.
