Position

Gabriel de Jesus has been an attorney in the Firm since 1997 and became a local partner in 2011. Gabriel practices dispute resolution and commercial litigation and is recognized by Chambers Latin America as a leading lawyer in the field. He is also an Associate Litigation Professor at the Universidad Monteávila and Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas.

Baker McKenzie SC’s team is regularly engaged in high-stakes investment treaty arbitration against the Venezuelan government. The group is representing Longreef Investors in an ICSID investment arbitration under the Netherlands-Venezuela bilateral investment treaty (BIT). Practice head Eugenio Hernández-Bretón has considerable expertise in the oil and gas sector, and is serving as Venezuelan legal expert to PetroSaudi Oil Services Venezuela in its arbitration with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela concerning a public procurement contract between the client and state-owned PDVSA. Maria Eugenia Salazar and Gabriel de Jesús are also noted. José Henrique D’Apollo has retired.

  • The New Turkish Code of Obligations: Important Changes for Leases of Residential & Business Premises

    For decades, the primary Turkish laws governing leases of residential and business premises have been the Law on Leasing Real Property dated May 27, 1955 (the “Lease Law”) and the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 818 dated April 22, 1926 (the “Obligations Code”). Both of these laws, however, will be repealed and replaced with the new Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098 dated January 11, 2011 (the “New Obligations Code”), which will enter into force on July 7, 2012.
