Julie Alexander is a Principal in Baker & McKenzie's Gulf offices. Specialising in Islamic finance, project finance and trade finance transactions, she also advises on the full spectrum of banking and finance matters. Julie represents banks, borrowers and project sponsors in transactions primarily involving Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and the U.A.E.


Qualified 1995. Worked at Clayton Utz (Australia) prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 2001. Partner in Baker & McKenzie's Gulf offices 2004 to date.

One of the best in Bahrain’, Baker & McKenzie Limited’s finance team regularly acts for government entities and major banks on domestic transactions, as well as handling multi-jurisdictional matters. Highlights included advising Arab Banking Corporation on structuring and documenting a range of Islamic and conventional facilities, and acting as lead counsel for the government of Bahrain on $1.5bn worth of dual tranche bond issuances. Ian Siddell heads the group, which includes key figures Julie Alexander and Bilal Kahlon.

The group also advises borrowers and Bilal Kahlon has been assisting dairy company Almarai with its dual tranche syndicated facility from HSBC Saudi Arabia and J.P. Morgan, with a total value in excess of $580m. Ian Siddell is practice head. Julie Alexander is also highly experienced.

  • The New Turkish Code of Obligations: Important Changes for Leases of Residential & Business Premises

    For decades, the primary Turkish laws governing leases of residential and business premises have been the Law on Leasing Real Property dated May 27, 1955 (the “Lease Law”) and the Turkish Code of Obligations No. 818 dated April 22, 1926 (the “Obligations Code”). Both of these laws, however, will be repealed and replaced with the new Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098 dated January 11, 2011 (the “New Obligations Code”), which will enter into force on July 7, 2012.
