Mr Zaki Hashmi
Career
Zaki qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and acquired Higher Rights of Audience in 2008. He has established a reputation for his persuasive and measured approach towards advocacy in the Crown Court.
Zaki has represented clients charged with a wide range of serious criminal offences, including murder and complex fraud, both as sole and junior counsel. He has successfully represented clients in high value cases of tax evasion, money laundering, conspiracy to steal and export high value vehicles, cigarette and alcohol importation, drugs supply and importation and offences contrary to the Modern Slavery Act. He has also successfully represented clients accused of serious violence and sex offences including indecent images.
Throughout his career Zaki has litigated all types of serious criminal matters and his attention to detail has earned praise from both clients and instructed advocates.
Zaki also privately represents clients in the magistrates’ court and on appeal in a range of road traffic offences including drink driving, failing to provide a specimen and touting for hire. He provides careful and thoroughly considered advice to clients seeking to appeal against conviction and sentence in the Crown Court and has appeared regularly in the Court of Appeal.
Zaki’s ability to analyse and prepare cases to a high standard has been utilised by the Legal Aid Agency and Ministry of Justice for whom he has worked as a Crime Peer Reviewer since 2006. As a Senior Peer Reviewer he examines and assesses the quality of work undertaken by criminal law firms throughout England and Wales in order to ensure that they meet the standards required of them.
A former committee member of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association (LCCSA), Zaki currently serves on the LCCSA subcommittee concerning new crime legislation and government consultations on sentencing guidelines reform.
