Richard Burrows
Position
Richard Burrows is a principal associate in Weightmans’ national Disease team. Based in Liverpool, and having joined the firm in 2011, Richard is one of the internal technical leads for the team. He has a keen interest in emerging risks and horizon scanning to ensure that the firm’s clients are well prepared for any potential new trends which put them at risk.
Richard’s core client base is formed of insurers in the legacy market, as well as large corporate organisations. He handles a variety of claims ranging from low value noise induced hearing loss claims to high value asbestos-related injury claims, COSHH claims and other respiratory injury claims. Richard frequently co-ordinates and delivers training sessions to Weightmans’ clients and to the wider legacy market, both in relation to the technical complexities of current claims, as well as how to prepare best for potential claims trends in the future.
In addition to his work at Weightmans, Richard is also a director of the Insurance and Reinsurance Legacy Association (IRLA), having been appointed in April 2023. In May 2023 he won IRLA’s Future Leader award as recognition for his contribution to Weightmans, IRLA and the legacy market as a whole.
