Career

Thierry Gougy is a French-qualified lawyer based in Phnom Penh with nearly 30 years of experience on foreign investment, M&A, joint venture structuring, project development, and taxation. He started his career at leading firms in Paris as a corporate and M&A lawyer and was posted to Southeast Asia by Gide Loyrette Nouel in 1998. With nearly 20 years of experience in Asia, he has gained extensive knowledge of project development and transactions, notably in the Mekong Region.

Prior to joining DFDL in 2007, Thierry was the managing lawyer for the Hong Kong and Guangzhou offices of a French law firm. He was the Managing Partner of the DFDL Vietnam offices for six years and relocated to Singapore in 2014 to head the Regional Corporate & M&A practice. Thierry has also worked on key project finance transactions in Cambodia. In 2017, he relocated to France with his family and helped develop the international practice of a boutique firm in Paris. During his time in Europe, Thierry was engaged in various projects and assignments related to investment, corporate law and project finance in Eastern Africa. Thierry recently rejoined DFDL to head the Cambodia office.

Education

Thierry attended Paris Dauphine University where he studied International Business Administration and Paris Assas – Pantheon University where he obtained a master’s degree in business law. He is a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po).
