Career

 

The Datuk was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1967 and admitted as an Utter Barrister of the Honourable Society of Inner Temple. He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1968. He trained as a young litigator at Messrs Presgrave & Matthews and was previously a Litigation Partner at Messrs Adnan Sundra Low. From January 2000 until April 2016, Datuk was the Senior Litigation Partner at Albar & Partners. He retired from the partnership on 1 May 2016 but continues to serve as a Consultant.

With over half a century’s experience practising the law, Datuk Chandran is among the nation’s pioneers in litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He has appeared in Malaysia’s High Courts, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court (old) and the Federal Court and arbitral tribunals in numerous high-profile disputes, some of which have set precedents in the areas of banking and commercial interests and reported in the law annals.

For several successive years since its 2003 edition until the 2018 edition, Datuk Chandran was listed by The Asia Pacific Legal 500: the Guide to Asia’s Commercial Law Firms as a “Leading Individual Lawyer” in the area of Dispute Resolution in Malaysia. In the inaugural Euromoney’s Benchmark Asia Pacific 2013: The Definitive Guide to the Leading Disputes Firms & Attorneys in the region, he was also recognised as one of the “Local Disputes Stars” for Malaysia. The Datuk was nominated by in-house counsels and peers as a “Leading Lawyer” in Dispute Resolution by Asialaw Leading Lawyers 2014.
