Position
Ian leads the commercial team at Michelmores. He has extensive experience of managing and co-ordinating teams of lawyers and portfolios of matters. Ian previously worked in-house for a large, multinational, where he headed the legal function. In relation to major matters in the commercial field, Ian would typically assemble a multi-disciplinary team of relevant specialists and support resources, allocating and monitoring work, supervising and contributing where necessary. Ian's core areas of work include: major commercial contracts/projects: structuring and leading transactions, including PPP and outsourcing; related funding arrangements; collaboration and joint ventures (particularly in a public-private context); EU and competition law: Ian advises regularly on EU/competition matters, including procurement law and state aid, and related compliance issues. Ian has particular experience in relation to projects supported by EU and UK grant funding, and in dealing with the competition law implications of trading by government and other agencies. In the field of procurement law, Ian advises on strategy and compliance; documentation; choice of procedures; selection and award methodologies; challenges and has particular experience of competitive dialogue, both for public bodies and bidders; waste/energy/renewables: co-ordination of the firm's multi-disciplinary practice teams covering these areas including acting for central and local government, as well as numerous private-sector entities. The commercial team also covers general commercial and trading agreements, agency, distribution, and outsourcing arrangements. It has separate teams covering the following areas, with whom there are close working relationships: intellectual property; technology, media and communications and projects/construction.
