Position

Julie practises in all areas of family law with an emphasis on matrimonial finance and public law. Within matrimonial finance she also deals with disputes between former co-habitees and with her experience of being an employed barrister she has a greater understanding of both procedure and implementation. Within the public law sphere Julie has traditionally represented parents and guardians. More recently she has assisted foster carers and prospective adopters when they find themselves in dispute with a local authority, both within care or adoption proceedings but also away from court in the complaint process and investigations by the Independent Safeguarding Authority as well as other bodies. Julie’s experience of mediation and practice at the Bar in two jurisdictions leads her to the conclusion that the vast majority of private law disputes can be resolved by mediation where there is an opportunity for the parties to be represented and the mediator is an experienced family lawyer. She hopes to pursue this both as a mediator and as part of a team of practitioners representing clients, be that by referral or direct public access. Having completed the public access training and having experience working in a private practice law firm, Julie aims to provide lay clients with a cost-effective choice where appropriate, while continuing good relationships with solicitors where clients require that level of assistance.
