Axel Salander is admitted as a Rechtsanwalt and a solicitor (England & Wales). After training and working with a shipping law firm in Hamburg, he went on to practice shipping and commercial law in London from 1987 until his return to Hamburg in 1994, where he continued with his Anglo-German practice. Axel joined Fleet Hamburg as a founding member from the Hamburg office of a London based shipping law firm.


Axel speaks English and German.


Axel is a supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitration Association (LMAA), member of the German Maritime Arbitration Association (GMAA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the German Insitution for Arbitration (DIS), the German Association for International Maritime Law (DVIS), the German-Nordic Lawyers Association (DNJV) and the Nautical Association of Hamburg.


Studies: Axel studied law at St. John's College, Oxford and subsequently, at Kiel University. Qualifications: Axel is admitted as a Rechtsanwaltin Germany and as a solicitor in England and Wales.
He specialises in dispute resolution in the maritime industry and international commercial law. His experience covers P&I, admiralty and dry shipping matters, disputes under charterparties and contracts of carriage, as well as shipbuilding and repair contracts. Axel also advises and represents suppliers and engineering firms in the maritime and offshore industries in the context of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and in disputes subject to English and German law. Axel has wide and long standing experience handling shipping and commercial disputes involving both English and German law in the English and German courts and in other major arbitration centres.
