Giovanni Verde is professor of civil procedure law from 1975; while being dean of the law department of the university of Camerino, he taught civil procedural law at the universities of Salerno, Naples – Federico II, Rome – La Sapienza and Rome – LUISS Guido Carli, where he also held the chair of arbitration law. Professor Verde spent his early career (from 1964) as a judge in the Italian civil courts and in the four-year period 1998-2002 he was appointed to the Italian Supreme Judiciary Counsel (Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura), where he also served as Vice President. The Italian Supreme Judiciary Counsel is chaired by the President of the Republic of Italy. In the last thirty years, Professor Verde has served as an executive member of the Italian Association of Civil Procedure Lawyers, as a member of the International Association of Trial Lawyers and as a member of the editorial committee of the Journal of Civil Procedure Law. He is currently on the editorial committee of other prominent legal journals, including the Journal of Arbitration Law. Professor Verde is author of three publications, two concerning the enforcement proceedings and one concerning the burden of proof. He is also author of a publication on civil procedure as well as of a short textbook on arbitration law (besides editing a volume on arbitration law with other co-authors). He edited several relevant legal entries for the “Enciclopedia del diritto” and the “Enciclopedia giuridica Treccani”. His minor works concern bankruptcy law, arbitration law, administrative trial and civil procedure law.
