Position

Partner in the regulatory department acting for businesses and individuals facing regulatory and/or criminal proceedings and issues arising from statutory bodies, such as police, VOSA, Environment Agency or HSE. Significant proportion of case-load refers to the road transport sector and in particular regulatory compliance, eg operator licensing, drivers hours, construction and use, cabotage, overloading, road traffic offences and employer criminal liability. Also Higher Courts (Criminal) Advocate. Tim is a regular contributor to the road transport commercial press and road transport legal updates.

Career

Primarily specialising in criminal litigation, road traffic lawyer and duty solicitor in Nottingham and Suffolk (1990-2003); developed specialism in regulatory crime, particularly in the field of road transport and in court and public inquiry and operator licensing. Over 20 years’ advocacy experience in criminal courts and other tribunals. Described by ‘Chambers 2010 Guide to the Legal Profession’ as a ‘talented and clear-thinking practitioner’, while the 2010 edition of ‘The Legal 500’ referred to Tim as: ‘At Woodfines LLP, the arrival of Tim Ridyard as a major coup.’
