Career

Matthias specialises in environmental and planning law. He advises clients in regulatory disputes as well as in approval procedures and infrastructure projects. His particular area of expertise is in circular economy and pollution control law.

He is a frequent lecturer and regularly publishes in his area of expertise. He is the co-author of a commentary on the Federal Pollution Control Act (BImSchG).

Prior to joining avocado rechtsanwälte in April 2021, Matthias has practiced as a lawyer since 2013 and has worked, inter alia, for an international law firm and, most recently, for a law firm specialising in public law in Potsdam, which he left as an associate partner.

Education

Matthias completed his legal education at the universities of Bayreuth and Münster. During his legal clerkship (Referendariat) he worked at the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) at the German Environment Agency. He received his doctorate with a thesis on the responsibility under public law. The title Certified Specialist Lawyer in Administrative Law was awarded to him in 2018.
