Position

Oliver Süme is a Partner in Fieldfisher’s Hamburg office and specialises in advising on Technology, Data Protection and IT Law.

He has more than 25 years of experience in these areas and advises his clients in all legal areas covered by IT and digitalisation, in particular in international Data Protection Law and in the area of data economy, IT contract law as well as in legal issues relating to Cybersecurity, IT Security and E-commerce.

His clients include technology companies, the public sector and, in particular, international life science companies. His advice covers legal issues in connection with digitalisation processes and the establishment of data rooms and data sharing as well as the use of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Big Data.

He is constantly involved with current developments in the constantly changing regulatory framework of the Internet and Technology sector in Germany and Europe.

Among other things, he recently advised the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology on the development of the European cloud and data project “Gaia-X”.

Memberships

He is Chairman of the Board of eco Verband der Internetwirtschaft (www.eco.de) and chair the Data Protection Working Group of the European umbrella organisation of Internet Service Providers EuroISPA (www.euroispa.org), based in Brussels.

He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (www.irz.de) and a member of the Advisory Board of the Mobility Data Space (www.mobility-dataspace.eu).

He is co-editor of the journal “Recht der digitalen Wirtschaft (ZdiW)” published by Wolters Klüwer.
