Career

Koen Mous has been a lawyer since 2003 and became partner in 2016. He is co-heading the Healthcare practice of Dirkzwager.  Koen’s practice primarily revolves around civil-law matters and his focus areas include medical liability and medical disciplinary law, procurement of healthcare services and healthcare contracts, the relationship between healthcare providers and healthcare insurers, and the organisation of specialist medical care in hospitals.  In recent years, proceedings conducted by Koen against healthcare insurers in relation to the free choice of doctor (Section 13 of the Dutch Healthcare Insurance Act), the prohibition of assignment and the authorisation requirement received a great deal of attention nationwide. These proceedings resulted in ground-breaking judgments and rulings, reinforcing the position of healthcare providers.  In the autumn of 2022, Koen Mous was asked by the Standing Committee on Healthcare of the House of Representatives of the States General to participate as an expert in a meeting on the free choice of physician. His client base includes hospitals and other healthcare entities.
