DFDL Mekong’s ‘very knowledgeable’ and dedicated regional tax practice provides advice across the Mekong Delta countries, and mixes lawyers and accountants. Based in Phnom Penh, practice head Edwin Vanderbruggen is highly regarded and the group was strengthened by the January 2011 recruitment of tax adviser Jean Loi from PwC Vietnam (also based in Phnom Penh).

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advises international corporations and Big Four accountancy firms on tax law including the recent Vietnam Ordinance on Natural Resources Tax. Tony Foster and Milton Lawson form the core of the team.

Phuoc & Partners provides day-to-day and transactional tax advice. It frequently represents clients in tax disputes with the authorities. Managing partner Nguyen Huu Phuoc is recommended.

Le Net leads LCT Lawyers’ tax practice, which advises corporate clients on tax treaties, legislation and incentives, and represents clients in disputes.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal Vietnam Company Limited provides tax-related legal advice, and is well regarded.

VCI Legal’s tax planning and auditing practice includes several dedicated tax practitioners including Mai Massias and Nga Dinh, as well as corporate lawyer and managing partner Phung Anh Tuan.

YKVN advises banks and companies on tax optimisation. Notably, it is defending a foreign investor in a potentially precedent-setting case over alleged tax evasion regarding a prestigious hotel development.
