At BDO Law, the tax practice group is led by experienced practitioners Janis Zelmenis and Vita Liberte. The firm advises on the full range of tax services, including corporate and individual tax planning, asset placement planning, compliance, audits and due diligence. In a recent highlight, it conducted an evaluation for the Baltic Musical Seasons Foundation. Rihards Niedra departed the firm to start his own practice.

The team at Cobalt¬†advises on cross-border tax structures, litigation and the structuring of transactions, and has been bolstered by the arrival of¬†Sandija Novicka¬†as head of the practice. Key contacts are¬†ńĘirts LejiŇÜŇ°¬†and specialist counsel Andrejs Lielkalns. The firm advised Luminor on the tax aspects of its merger, which was finalised in January 2019. Novicka provided advice to Deutsche Bank on corporate income tax and other matters.

Led by the ‚Äėexceptional‚Äô Zinta Jansons,¬†Ellex¬†assists local and international clients with numerous tax issues;¬†Jansons recently advised Mandatum Life Baltic¬†on the tax aspects of its¬†merger with its Finnish parent company. The team is regularly engaged in cross-border work and is adept at providing 'sensible solutions to complex legal issues‚Äô.¬†Ivars Pommers¬†is recommended.

JńĀnis Taukańćs¬†is head of the tax team at Sorainen, and gives the ‚Äėbest legal advice‚Äô to clients in relation to customs, taxation disputes and compliance matters. Finance specialist¬†RŇędolfs EŇÜń£elis,¬†senior associate Aija Lasmane¬†and associate MńĀrtiŇÜs Rudzńętis¬†advised Nasdaq on the VAT aspects of the services provided by its central depository system as required by the EU VAT Directive. The team is also undertaking pro bono research for an NGO on¬†tax relief for companies that donate to NGOs following the introduction of the new corporate income tax regime.

TGS Baltic‚Äôs tax team is led by the ‚Äėsmart and pragmatic‚Äô Andra Rubene, with other key practitioners including Nauris Grigals¬†and associate¬†RŇędolfs Vilsons. The team provides clients with advice on a wide scope of matters, including tax litigation and structuring. Novaturas and Philip Morris International are among the firm's clients.

Eversheds Sutherland BitńĀns¬†tax team covers a broad range of matters, including tax structuring and fraud allegations, and is particularly proficient in conducting audits. Senior partner MńĀris Vainovskis¬†and Ilze KramiŇÜa¬†are recommended.

Kronbergs ńĆukste Levin's tax practice focuses on tax structuring and dispute work, which often spans multiple jurisdictions. In a recent highlight, Vineta ńĆukste-Jurjeva¬†acted for 4finance in major tax litigation regarding the application of corporate income tax relief on donations.¬†Valter Kronbergs¬†is currently co-ordinating cross-border estate litigation involving a number of tax issues.

Led by¬†IngŇęna ńÄbele, the team at Primus Derling¬†advises local and international clients on diverse tax issues, including transfer pricing, due diligence¬†and audits.¬†The team advised the Latvian Sports Federations Council and the Latvian Olympic Committee on taxation rules. Anete Marhele left the firm to join financial company ECommPay.

Certified tax consultant Elina Putnina¬†oversees the team at R√∂dl & Partner,¬†which has expertise in tax compliance and assisting with the tax aspects of cross-border mergers. Senior tax consultant Laura PavńĀre,¬†who joined from KPMG, is also a key figure.¬†JńĀnis ҆neiders left the firm to join¬†Norvik Banka.

The full-service tax group at¬†Deloitte Legal in Latvia¬†is led by¬†Maris Liguts.¬†In recent work, it acted for a large Latvian transportation company in a challenge to a decision of the¬†Latvian State Revenue Service (SRS) denying the client the right to deduct input VAT. The firm also has experience in tax disputes.¬†Associate¬†DńĀvids LipŇ°ens¬†joined from Sorainen. Matiss Rostoks left for law firm Magnusson.

At PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal, tax is a core area of work for the team, which advises on international planning and structuring and represents clients in disputes. Senior associate Maris Butans leads the practice group, which has undertaken contentious work for big-name clients.

The newly established tax team at VILGERTS¬†has recently advised on cross-border tax planning and engaged in customs disputes for a number of high-value clients. Key members include¬†Viktorija Kristholde-LŇęse¬†who previously led the tax practice at¬†Grant Thornton Baltic and spent a decade at PwC in Latvia, as well as practice manager¬†Gints Vilgerts.¬†Former tax head¬†JŇęlija SauŇ°a¬†has departed the firm to form her own private practice.
