This section addresses the principal firms with regional offices across France. Many regional firms also have offices in Paris and some also have a presence internationally. Firms are listed alphabetically.

Adamas is recognised nationally for its full-service expertise, especially in public law. The firm fields some 60 lawyers – the majority is based in Lyon with others located in Paris and Bordeaux, Shanghai and Beijing.

Lyon and Paris-based Aklea produces ‘high-quality work’. The 30-lawyer firm covers a wide range of expertise, including corporate, tax and public law representation for SMEs and executives. Gilles Bazaille, Christophe Cochet, Yan Freyria-Courtois, Bénédicte de Carlan, Sidonie Lacroix-Girard, Alain Ripert, Lionel Roche and Sandra Corcos are the key contacts.

Full-service firm Bignon Lebray fields some 60 lawyers, including 25 in Paris and 24 in Lille. The firm also has satellite offices in Lyon, Aix-en-Provence and Shanghai.

Bird & Bird has a main office in Paris and a significant presence in Lyon. The firm’s 30 lawyers offer a broad range of expertise.

CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre Lyon fields some 29 partners and 66 lawyers in total. The firm provides tax, corporate and employment law support to SMEs and large French and international groups based in Rhône-Alpes; it is one of the top firms in south-eastern France.

Nantes-based Cornet Vincent Ségurel is appreciated for its ‘practical support’. It is one of the largest firms in western France, staffed by some 125 lawyers with a major office in Paris and other notable offices in Rennes, Lille and Bordeaux. Clients range from SMEs to large corporations.

Lyon-based Delsol Avocats ranks among the best regional firms in France. The full-service firm also has an office in Paris and advises SMEs, entrepreneurs and some large groups. The firm also has excellent knowledge of the non-profit sector through Xavier Delsol.

Ernst & Young Société d’Avocats has some ten offices in France and provides a complete range of expertise.

Fidal has some 90 offices in France and an office in Brussels, totalising some 1,239 lawyers who provide full-service expertise.

Lyon and Paris-based Fromont Briens fields 160 lawyers and ranks among the top employment law firms in France.

Pwc Société d’Avocats has some ten offices in France and covers a wide range of expertise.

Full-service Parisian firm Racine has six regional offices (Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg and Saint-Denis de la Réunion) and another in Brussels. It fields some 180 lawyers and is highly respected.

Lyon-based Cabinet Ratheaux fields some 40 lawyers and also has an office in Paris. The firm advises SMEs, some leading companies and international groups. The M&A team is led by Gaétan de la Bourdonnaye, Michel Bottazzi and Henri Saint-Père. Tax law is dealt with by Serge Berrettoni, Christian Muller and Rodolphe Mosse. Marie-Claude Chautard advises on employment law, while Bernard Ughetto and Sandrine Mollon handle litigation and IP matters.

Taj has five offices in France (Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Paris). The firm has a broad range of expertise, including leading tax capability.

Paris-headquartered Vaughan Avocats has ‘a great regional network’. Partners are ‘available, have good technique and respect budget and deadlines’. The firm fields some 50 lawyers across a comprehensive range of expertise. They are based in Paris, Rennes, Sophia-Antipolis, Toulouse, Versailles and Bamako.

  • The new French regulation applying to national insurance contributions for managers and shareholders

    French insurance contributions on executive and shareholder remuneration (pay + dividends) have been substantially increased by the National Insurance Funding for 2013 Act, No. 2012-1404, of 17th December 2012. Until 31st December 2012, all dividends were subject to national insurance contributions on unearned income but henceforth, under Article L136-3 of the National Insurance Code, amended by Act No. 2012-1404, certain dividends   are considered as pay received by executives and shareholders and are therefore subject to the national insurance contributions on pay. The Act also abolished the ceiling on health insurance contributions payable by the self-employed and all this means that businesses must rethink the way that they have been structured until now.
