This section addresses the principal firms with regional offices across France. Many regional firms also have offices in Paris and some also have a presence internationally. Firms are listed alphabetically.

Paris and Lyon-based full-service firm Adamas is well regarded nationally, especially in public law. The firm fields some 60 lawyers and has antenna offices in Shanghai and Beijing.

Lyon and Paris-based Aklea is a 30-lawyer firm with a broad range of expertise, including corporate, tax and public law. It typically advises SMEs and executives.

Full-service firm Bignon Lebray fields some 60 lawyers in Paris, Lille, Lyon, Aix-en-Provence and Shanghai.

Bird & Bird has a main office in Paris and a significant presence in Lyon with some 20 lawyers; it provides a broad range of expertise.

CMS in Lyon houses around 90 lawyers. The firm is a leading player in the greater South East, where it advises SMEs and subsidiaries of large French and foreign groups.

Nantes-based Cornet Vincent Ségurel is a major firm in western France. The firm is also well established in Paris and has secondary offices in Rennes and Lille. The full-service firm fields some 120 lawyers.

Lyon-based Delsol Avocats ranks among the best regional firms in France. The full-service firm also has an office in Paris and advises SMEs, entrepreneurs and some large groups. The firm also has ‘excellent knowledge of the non-profit sector’ through Xavier Delsol.

Ernst & Young Société d'Avocats provides a full-service practice across ten offices in France.

Full-service firm Fidal has some 90 offices in France and an office in Brussels, collectively staffed by more than 1,200 lawyers.

Lyon and Paris-based Fromont Briens ranks among the top employment law firms in France.

Marseille-based Nova Partners has ‘quickly become a key player in private equity for the region’ and is ‘great at addressing issues faced by SMEs’. The firm also advises banks, showing ‘great responsiveness when handling restructuring and structured finance work’. Practice head Olivier Nett gives ‘great advice to entrepreneurs’.

Pwc Société d'Avocats has a large range of expertise in its ten offices around France.

Full-service Parisian firm Racine has six regional offices (Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg, Saint-Denis de la Réunion) and a satellite presence in Brussels.

Cabinet Ratheaux is ‘a key name in Lyon’ and provides ‘high-quality services’. The 40-lawyer firmalso has an office in Paris and advises SMEs, large groups and French subsidiaries of international groups. It has a broad range of expertise.

Taj fields over 450 lawyers in its five offices. The firm has a broad range of practices, including leading tax expertise.

Full-service Parisian firm Vaughan Avocats has several provincial offices in Rennes, Sophia Antipolis and Toulouse, as well as satellites in Versailles and Bamako.

  • The new French regulation applying to national insurance contributions for managers and shareholders

    French insurance contributions on executive and shareholder remuneration (pay + dividends) have been substantially increased by the National Insurance Funding for 2013 Act, No. 2012-1404, of 17th December 2012. Until 31st December 2012, all dividends were subject to national insurance contributions on unearned income but henceforth, under Article L136-3 of the National Insurance Code, amended by Act No. 2012-1404, certain dividends   are considered as pay received by executives and shareholders and are therefore subject to the national insurance contributions on pay. The Act also abolished the ceiling on health insurance contributions payable by the self-employed and all this means that businesses must rethink the way that they have been structured until now.
