Attorneys at law Borenius Ltd’s team is ‘excellent’, particularly for transport-related disputes. The firm is acting for a major cargo underwriter following the collision of two vessels in an ice channel, and handling various claims for a transport company. Maritime, transport and insurance specialist Ulla von Weissenberg is widely admired. Jan Aminoff retired in 2011.

Castrén & Snellman has an extensive client portfolio of domestic and international shipowners, P&I clubs and transport companies, and it particularly excels in litigation. Head of practice Niklas Langenskiöld and counsel Rickard Langensköldj are ‘leading lawyers in this field’, and ‘both have the ability to quickly and efficiently assess the problem, making their services cost efficient’.

Another leading practice is that of Hammarström Puhakka Partners, Attorneys Ltd, where Henrik Gahmberg and Herman Ljungberg ‘have a high level of expertise in maritime law’ and share an extensive caseload of wet and dry shipping matters, aviation insurance and other transport issues. Gahmberg is ‘tough, tenacious and completely unstoppable; we would not want to see him on the other side’, says one client.

Dittmar & Indrenius’ clients include Russian Railways and a major airline, which are attracted to the firm’s ‘very strong’ corporate and finance practices. Managing partner Jan Ollila takes overall responsibility for this line of work.

Like other firms in this tier, HH Partners, Attorneys-at-Law, Ltd does not have a dedicated maritime or transport practice group but has notable experience in providing corporate and disputes advice to transport sector clients.

Krogerus advises a broad range of transport clients, or major public bodies with transport-related issues, such as Air Finland and Posten Logistik. Lauri Railas is the key figure for this type of work, but litigator Jari-Pekka Alho is ‘without doubt unrivalled’ for aircraft leasing disputes.

Merilampi has a significant transport sector client base that includes an airline and its subsidiaries which the firm is advising in a series of court proceedings, one of which is before the ECJ and led by disputes specialist Tapio Väätäinen.
