Kirkland & Ellis LLP delivers exceptional advocacy across major product liability and mass tort matters, high-profile commercial litigation and appeals, and privacy and data-breach disputes. A recent standout matter exemplifying the firm’s skill is its representation of Evolution arising from an alleged false investigative report, where the team secured appellate wins involving damages of at least $14 billion. The practice draws on a deep bench of litigators. In Chicago, Andrew Kassof handles high-value commercial litigation and class actions; James Hurst has a particular interest in life sciences and patent-adjacent issues; and Mark Filip is proficient in bet-the-company commercial litigation. In Philadelphia, Allison Brown is noted for pharmaceutical and medical devices litigation. New York-based Devora Allon advises across healthcare and life sciences disputes; and Sandra Goldstein is recognized for securities and M&A litigation. Also in New York, Kuan Huang further strengthens the practice. Washington DC-based Winn Allen further bolsters the team with his experience across antitrust, product liability, consumer fraud, and contractual issues.

Work highlights
Serving as counsel for Uber in nationwide mass tort alleging Uber failed to implement appropriate safety precautions to protect passengers against risk of sexual assault or misconduct by drivers. In 2025, after a three-week trial in coordinated proceedings in California state court, a jury found for Uber on causation, ruling that the company’s alleged negligence was not a substantial factor in plaintiffs’ alleged injuries. Representation ongoing.
Representing Johnson & Johnson as lead counsel in a multidistrict litigation in New Jersey federal court involving nearly 70,000 plaintiffs alleging they contracted ovarian cancer from exposure to Johnson’s Baby Powder. Kirkland similarly serves as lead counsel in all state related coordinated actions, including dockets in New Jersey; Philadelphia, PA; Cook Co, IL; and Los Angeles, CA; as well as national coordinating counsel for all mesothelioma matters filed nationwide.
Representing United Airlines as intervenor in breach of contract litigation concerning a dispute over the number of allocated gates at O'Hare International Airport. After a seven-day preliminary injunction trial, Kirkland defeated American's request to delay O'Hare's reallocation of gates.
