FAyaz Bhojani is the managing partner of FB Attorneys, one of Tanzania’s leading law firms. He has over twenty years’ of experience dealing with corporate legal affairs and co-leads the firm’s litigation team.
FAyaz has a PhD in law from the University of London and is a graduate of the world-renowned Berkeley Law School at the University of California. As an undergraduate, he studied actuarial science under the Society of Actuaries (SOA), bringing with him sharp mathematical skills.
FAyaz has represented national, regional, and multinational clients, including state-owned companies, as well as investors, in arbitral disputes. He has appeared before distinguished tribunals, such as the London Court of International Arbitration, the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, and the DIFC Courts, as well as the Court of Appeal and High Courts in Tanzania.
FAyaz is recognised for his ability to deal with legally complex litigation matters that require careful judgement and continues to work with leading international law firms.
Having been consulted by the leading multinational companies, FAyaz brings strong commercial sense to any legal transaction. He has successfully negotiated and completed several large transactions in the energy and extractive industries, having been involved in mergers in the oil and gas, and mining sectors with total value of over USD 50 billion and tax disputes in excess of USD 120 billion.
He is a hands-on partner and gets fully involved in all drafting and negotiations, leading the team by example. His practice spans a number of other sectors including financial services, telecoms, energy, tax, competition and M&A.
FAyaz has been consistently ranked as a leading top lawyer in Tanzania by legal directories, Chambers and Partners, IFLR 1000 and the Legal 500, which called him ‘a skilled strategist”.
An expert communicator, he is also one of Tanzania’s best known public legal authors, bringing easy-to-read legal insights to the public and business communities. He regularly authors two of FB Attorneys’ most popular publications – Legal Update and the weekly publication of the popular Q&A with FB Attorneys published in the Daily News every Monday and circulated to over 50,000 readers electronically every week.
