Von Wobeser y Sierra, SC has established itself as regulatory counsel of note for projects spanning oil and gas, electric power and renewable sources, advising clients on navigating Mexico’s evolving legal framework and adapting to energy transition and decarbonisation initiatives. Edmond Grieger is the head partner in the firm’s energy practice, with specialisms in infrastructure project development and project finance, and a particular focus on renewables. Ariel Garfio Vázquez co-leads the practice and has extensive expertise in contract negotiations and providing counsel for oil and gas, power and mining projects. Luis Burgueño is involved in energy projects from a transactional and M&A perspective, working alongside fellow partners Alberto Córdoba and Raymundo Soberanis. The practice benefits from robust associate support from Roberto Flores, who advises on day-to-day environmental and regulatory compliance, with the team being further strengthened during 2024 with the arrival of associates Edmundo Berumen and Héctor Sánchez. Work highlights
Advised New Fortress Energy (through its SPV named Mexico FLNG) on the development and operation of significant projects within the capital-intensive infrastructure and energy market, including a $2 billion Floating Liquefied Natural Gas project, complementing the offshore natural gas liquefaction plant near Altamira, Tamaulipas.
Acted as legal advisor for Mitsui on a number of significant energy and infrastructure projects including the power stations at the wastewater treatment plants in Jalisco and the Mitre Calera Sola project.
Provided comprehensive and strategic legal counsel to Invenergy across its entire portfolio of high-impact energy projects in Mexico.
