DLA Piper Mexico serves as the regional hub for the firm’s global arbitration practice, which collaborates with its other international offices to tackle high-profile, multijurisdictional disputes. The practice is widely recognised for its international arbitral strength, but additionally continues to build a domestic presence, representing major clients, particularly in the energy and pharmaceutical sectors, under a variety of institutional rules. The practice is led by two prominent arbitration specialists with complementary expertise: Kate Brown de Vejar, who focuses on global commercial and investment arbitration and is qualified in both Australian and New York; and Gabriela Álvarez-Ávila, an investment law expert, with significant experience in mandates involving infrastructure, banking and telecoms. The team is strengthened by of counsels Juan Pablo Moyano, a dual US and Mexico-qualified arbitrator who participates in disputes under a range of institutional rules in the energy and technology sectors; and Ricardo Alarcón, who has experience representing states and multinational companies in investor-state arbitration. Intermediate associate Irene Cuéllar Araiza bolsters the team’s capabilities with her experience in commercial mediation.
