Acting for the Ugandan bank, Crane Bank, and its shareholders in relation to special measures taken against the bank by the Central Bank of Uganda as part of an alleged corrupt scheme to take control of the Bank and misappropriate its assets. Claims are brought in unlawful means conspiracy, dishonest assistance, and against one defendant, knowing receipt. The damage and loss suffered is in excess of USD 200 million.
Acting for Tradition Financial Services, one of the world’s largest inter-dealer brokers, in defending a multi-million-pound claim alleging dishonest assistance and fraudulent trading (under s.213 of the Insolvency Act 1986) brought by the liquidators of various companies which were used as vehicles for complex MTIC carousel fraud in the EUA carbon credit market in 2009.
