One recent case, In Quadra Commodities v XL Insurance, involved members on both sides. The case concerned the loss of cargoes of grain from warehouses in Ukraine as a result of what has become known as the Agroinvest Fraud, and Jawdat Khurshid KC and Anna Gotts acted for Quadra opposite Peter MacDonald Eggers KC and Sandra Healy. Richard Southern KC is a leading silk in this area, and he is currently involved in a case concerning the alleged cross-contamination of gasoil and gasoline while in transit. Peter MacDonald Eggers KC is a “very user-friendly and commercial barrister” who specialises in all aspects of commercial law, with a particular focus on insurance and reinsurance , shipping and transport, energy, commodities and international trade, financial services, professional negligence, and international investment projects. Peter appears before the Commercial Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court and in commercial and international arbitrations. Peter has also appeared before Courts in other jurisdictions. Peter accepts appointments to act as an arbitrator. Peter sat as a Deputy High Court Judge from 2017 to 2023 and is the immediate Past Chair of BILA. He teaches at UCL, KCL and QMUL and is the author, co-author or editor of Good Faith and Insurance Contracts, Deceit: The Lie of the Law, The Vitiation of Contractual Consent, Carver on Charterparties and Chitty on Contracts.
