Latham & Watkins LLP has carved out a significant market share of Latin America energy and infrastructure projects and other transactions. Its close links to sponsors, developers, institutional investors, lenders, private equity funds, governments and other borrowers. Many of its team members come from the Latin America region, or are fluent Spanish or Portuguese speakers. Within the energy and infrastructure sector, it frequently advises on project finance, acquisition finance and M&A transactions, and is further recognised for hybrid financing structures. It continues to make a further impression in energy transition projects including carbon sequestration. In the infrastructure space, the Latin America team worked on the landmark securitisation structure comprising a multi-tranche series of notes issued by Panama Infrastructure Receivable Purchaser to finance the construction of the 4th Bridge over the Panama Canal. New York partner Guido Liniado is a native Spanish speaker and has nearly 20 years’ experience in Latin America energy and infrastructure transactions, including project finance, project bonds, securitisation and hybrid financings. Washington DC-based Carlos Ardila is further noted for Latin America project finance and energy M&A. Gianluca Bacchiocchi left the firm in March 2025.
