Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP has a core group of Latin America specialists based in its Miami office who are noted for their expertise in corporate transactions and M&A (especially banking and financial institutions deals), digital infrastructure projects and subsea fibre optic cable systems, and financings by agency lenders. The Miami team, along with colleagues in Washington DC and elsewhere, has significantly expanded the firm’s Latin America work for agency lenders, especially the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest) over the past few years, which in turn has raised its reputation across the region. Fernando Alonso is chairman of the Latin American and Iberian practice group, covering a broad range of M&A, finance and projects work; he has worked on a series of headline banking M&A transactions over recent years, including advising Promerica Financial Corporation on the potential acquisition of three separate banking businesses in Latin America. Uriel Mendieta is making a further impression in digital infrastructure projects and financing transactions for IDB Invest. Andrej Micovic is another key name in energy and infrastructure projects, while counsel Gabriel Lopez provides further senior-level expertise on Latin America transactions, particularly M&A. Fernando Margarit left the firm in May 2025.
