Career

Tony is a partner based in Ogier's Hong Kong office and is the head of Ogier’s finance practice in Asia. He provides BVI and Cayman legal advice in relation to a broad array of financing transactions and restructurings. He also has a strong focus on corporate work – including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, private equity structures and capital markets transactions.

Tony was named one of the top offshore lawyers in Asia by Asian Legal Business in its Offshore Client Choice List in 2021. He has been included in the list every year since its inception in 2016, except in 2018, where he was commended. In 2022, Tony was also named one of the Top Offshore Lawyers in Asia Business Law Journal's A-List.

Tony is ranked as a leading individual in Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, Legal 500 Asia Pacific and IFLR 1000 (Notable Practitioner).

Clients say that they value Tony's "commerciality and capacity to cut through a great amount of complexity and provide straightforward advice”.

Since joining Ogier, Tony has advised on a number of landmark finance transactions, including Indonesia's national airline's US$500 million sukuk - the first non-sovereign USD Sukuk out of Indonesia and the first Asia Pacific national flag carrier to successfully issue a USD benchmark bond on a standalone basis since Qantas Airways’ USD bond offering.

Tony is part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Restructuring and Corporate Recovery team. He has worked extensively on refinancings, corporate restructuring and reorganisations, schemes of arrangement and investor and shareholder rights and actions. He also has experience of bond restructurings. Tony advised on the successful restructuring of Mongolian Mining Corporation, a significant and complex matter named Restructuring Deal of the Year by IFLR in 2018.

Tony is also part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Private Equity team. He acts for private equity sponsors and lenders to them, on financing transactions, including cross-border leveraged and acquisition financing transactions, margin loans, minority ‘back leverage’ financings, mezzanine financings, fund-level financings, syndicated facilities and loan restructurings.

Tony started his career at a leading Australian firm in Sydney. Tony then worked in-house at one of Australia's largest investment services groups, where he focused on funds establishment and structured finance transactions. Tony then moved to Hong Kong to join a magic circle law firm where he advised on capital markets transactions, private equity, structured finance and bank lending.
