The former Sperber & Álvarez merged into global consultancy group Andersen's Ecuadorian office in April 2024, bringing the latter additional capability in a range of practices, competition and anti-trust arguably foremost among them. David Sperber is undoubtedly one of the foremost names in Ecuador for competition and anti-trust matters, having been the first individual to establish a competition boutique upon the entry passing of relevante legislation back in 2011/12; he handles the full range of antitrust matters and has considerable experience in cases before the Ecuadorian Competition Authority. Sperber is supported by directors Pablo Lara, whose practice centres on competition (particularly as regards strategic industries), regulatory and administrative law, corporate advisory and dispute resolution; and Cynthia Andino, whose competition focused practice also reached into trade matters. Recent cases include successfully obtaining the reduction of a $4m sanction levied by competition regulator ECA against Uniconfor 'gun-jumping' to $120,00 - although  the case remains on appeal.
