Xia Zheng

Founder

Xia Zheng is the founder of AFD China Intellectual Property Law Office. She has worked in the intellectual property field for nearly forty years and has been actively involved in IP prosecution, post-grant proceedings, enforcement & litigation, and strategic counseling. In 2011, Xia further expanded her focus and founded Beijing BHTD Law Firm as the litigation arm of AFD. Under her leadership, the two firms work seamlessly across practices to provide comprehensive advice that leads to innovative and advantageous results for our clients.

Xia has successfully assisted clients, from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups, in securing IP assets and protecting IP rights. She has obtained honors including the titles of National IP Talent, Long-term Contribution Award for China's Patent and Intellectual Property, a patron winner of the Outstanding Patent Attorney Awards, an advisor to local innovation and entrepreneurship programs, IAM Patent 1000's world leading patent professional, Asia IP Expert, and Managing IP magazine's IP Star. Xia represents clients in various industries, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, materials engineering, medical devices, vehicle products, semiconductors, telecommunications, computer technology, mechanical engineering, footwear and garments, food and beverage industry, household products, and more.

Xia has received broad recognition from numerous publications and institutions for her outstanding professional accomplishments. Her honors include being named a National IP Expert by the China Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) since 2016, a distinction she has maintained in recognition of her ongoing contributions. She has been consistently listed among the world’s leading patent professionals by IAM Patent 1000 since 2016, Asia IP Expert since 2016, and Managing IP magazine's IP Star since 2015. Earlier accolades include Outstanding Patent Attorney of the year (2014) from Beijing Patent Attorneys Association, Honor for Long Contributions to Chinese Patent and Intellectual Property Industries by the CNIPA (2010), and Excellent Patent Professionals (1997) from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In addition, Xia holds several leadership roles, serving as Director of All-China Patent Attorneys Association, Standing Director of Beijing Patent Attorneys Association, and Director of the Capital Intellectual Property Services Association. She is also an active member of major international IP organizations, including INTA, LES, AIPPI and AIPLA.

Xia’s academic pursuit of a Chemistry degree at university and a Master of Engineering at a graduate school in China, and her further study in organic chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Illinois where she passed doctoral qualification examination and obtained a Master of Science, coupled with her research experience respectively in an research institute and Human Genome Sciences (USA), her further pursuit of a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property from Franklin Pierce Law School of the University of New Hampshire, her training at an IP Institute, the China Intellectual Property Training Center, the All-China Patent Attorneys Association, Legal Training Centers and the China Copyright Protection Center, and her IP working experience as patent manager, patent attorney, trademark attorney, department head, general director assistant, director and partner in enterprises and IP firms respectively, have all laid a solid foundation for her outstanding professional performance in intellectual property practice and management, as well as for her excellent communication and cooperation with clients.
