FTC Prevails in Fight to Regulate Cybersecurity Practices
On March 7, 2014, U.S. District Judge Esther Salas in New
Jersey issued a much anticipated decision in FTC v.
Wyndham Worldwide Corporation, et al., rejecting a direct
challenge to the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) authority to
police corporate cybersecurity practices. In light of this
decision, companies seeking to avoid a run-in with the FTC would be
wise to retain cybersecurity professionals to review their
cybersecurity practices in light of all relevant FTC rulings and
statements.
