Existing Commercial Building Energy Performance Ordinance in San Francisco will require some interesting changes for existing commercial buildings in that city. The Ordinance will require existing commercial buildings to make energy-use reports available to public annually. It also requires buildings over 10,000 square feet to complete an energy efficiency audit every 5 years.

"San Francisco needs to increase the energy and resource efficiency of existing buildings if we are going to meet our aggressive greenhouse gas reduction targets," Mayor Lee said in a statement. "This new green building code will educate building owners about what they need to do to save energy and money, and boost our local green economy."

Well, that is probably not very good news for the building owners, who will now have to audit the buildings and present the data, but it is probably some great news for local engineers who do commissioning work!
