There is an ongoing conversation about preparing the next generation of workers. But what does that look like in reality? By the time they're juniors or seniors in high school, students might have already chosen different careers to study. Why not start earlier? Let's educate them about their options in the oil and gas industry.

Step inside the classroom when an Energy4me workshop is going on. You'll see kids taking core samples with straws and pink and purple sand. At another table they are learning about perforated well casings. They are having a great time with these activities, but also learning about oil exploration and production.

These kids could be our next petroleum engineers. Fracturing with gelatin is always a favorite activity, as well as oil extraction with straws and chocolate syrup. Students connected pipe sections made of drinking straws and sucked the "oil" (chocolate syrup and soda) to the surface. This activity is especially memorable, and teachers enjoy participating as well. Although we're not going to recruit anyone out of third grade, this type of workshop is the perfect first impression of the industry for students to remember as they progress through school, and eventually think about career paths.
