The Petroleum Safety Conference (PSC) met in May to discuss the issues affecting the industry. Here were some recurring themes one attendee noted:

Safety is personal

We all know someone who has been affected by a work-related accident. This year's PSC was held in the Banff, Canada, and many in the region had been deeply affected by the Fort McMurray wildfires. Despite the downtime, the safety of the workers was paramount and the region banded together to evacuate those in harm's way.

Safety is a value

It is essential to create a high performing safety culture, which means emphasizing safety as a value rather than a goal. Goals and objectives can be achieved, but values are interwoven in the fiber of our business. Values are constant and help guide decision making.
