The US Patent and Trademark Office (US PTO) has issued new guidance on AI-assisted innovations, reaffirming that patents require human inventors. While AI alone can't be named an inventor, human contributions, like prompt engineering or system design, can be patentable. This approach aims to keep the patent system relevant amidst AI advancements. Other patent offices may follow suit with similar guidelines.
