On 20 April 2026, the Dutch government published a draft Implementation Act setting out the national governance structure for AI supervision under the AI Act. A central policy choice underlying the draft legislation is the adoption of a decentralised supervisory model. This entails that supervision will be exercised by eight sectoral and domain‑specific market surveillance authorities with the Dutch Data Protection Authority and the State Inspectorate for Digital Infrastructure assuming a coordinating role. For organisations developing or using AI systems in the Netherlands, this means that compliance oversight will generally be exercised by the regulator already competent for their sector, rather than by a single dedicated AI authority.
