The Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) and The Amsterdam Exchanges NV (ASE) have entered into a long-term cooperation agreement to enhance the further development of JSX and ASE.

"This is the initial step towards a long-term partnership between JSX and ASE in mobilizing our two countries' Stock Exchange resources," stated Hasan Zein Mahmud, the President Director of JSX.

As one of the rising emerging markets in Asia, JSX has introduced changes designed to improve its position as an efficient securities market in Indonesia and as well as in the region. On May 22, 1995 JSX implemented the Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) which will ensure greater efficiency and liquidity of securities trading in the country. The automated trading system will also help domestic and foreign investors who wish to access into this emerging market.

ASE already has an excellent reputation as a highly efficient securities trading market for European companies and investors. The partnership forged between JSX and ASE will combine the two exchanges' knowledge and expertise of the financial services industry in Indonesia and the Netherlands. "ASE' expertise in the European continent coupled with JSX' potential to facilitate a high level of capital movement in one of the emerging economies in the Asia Pacific region serves as a good basis for enhancing further development of both exchanges," reported Hans K. Brouwer, General Manager of ASE.

This initiative marks the willingness to reinvest in the historical relationship between the financial centres of Indonesia and the Netherlands.
