The past week has seen the draft Brexit proposals being released
in draft form, together with other related documents setting out
the "vision" for the UK's relationship with Europe in
the coming years. The Withdrawal Agreement is in draft form and
ultimately subject to a vote in Parliament, so may yet founder.
However, it is useful in terms of outlining how data protection
transfers are intended to be treated in the aftermath of the UK
leaving the European Union on 29 March 2019.
The UK will remain subject to Union law until at least 31
December 2020 (which marks the expiry of the Transition Period),
given that it has the option to extend Transition once. GDPR and
the ePrivacy Directive will continue to apply during
Transition.
