As a part of our 8-part series covering different crypto phenomena, we wanted to discuss one of the most brand new trends in cryptocurrencies – the metaverse. In this article we will go through the basics of the metaverse phenomenon, what possibilities it offers and what legal hurdles it presents.

Simply put, the metaverse is a 3D virtual world in which people can interact with each other via the internet. The contents and functionalities of metaverse can vary depending on the (metaverse) provider – some can offer virtual real estate, a sandbox-style building world or a social metaverse. As the metaverse is a somewhat new concept, it raises several legal questions that this article shall assess.

EU AI Act: Work In Progress — And The Pressure Is Building

The EU AI Act has been in force since August 2024, but the ink was barely dry before the European Commission proposed changes to it. In November 2025, the Commission published the Digital Omnibus proposal — a package of targeted amendments aimed at simplifying and clarifying the AI Act, alongside broader adjustments to several pieces of EU digital legislation, including the GDPR and Data Act. The proposal came as a response to concerns about legal uncertainty and the practical challenges businesses face in preparing for the new digital legislation.
